In Loving Memory of My Mother
Virginia E. Fikes
who died of heart failure on September 14, 2008
We love you mom, and will miss you always.
Happy Anniversary to you and dad - September 23, 2008 - 59 years
I encourage all site visitors to find out more about the bills in congress that can make a difference for family caregivers. Bills such as the Social Security Caregiver Credit Act of 2007 (H.R. 1161) is intended to amend title II of the Social Security Act through the addition of a section that would allow for those providing care for dependent relatives to earn deemed wages for such care. The specifics of the Social Security Caregiver Credit Act of 2007 can be found in the forums. |

The Social Security Caregiver Credit Act of 2007, H.R. 1161, is currently stuck in the Subcommittee on Social Security - we need to unstick that bill.
This is National Family Caregiver Month, so I am calling on everyone to please send a post card / letter / email - whatever you can to the chairman of the Subcommittee on Social Security, Congressman
Michael McNulty, and ask him why The Social Security Caregiver Credit Act of 2007, H.R. 1161, is still caught in the Subcommittee on Social Security. Explain what a bill like this could mean for you, as a family caregiver, or to a family caregiver you know, and encourage him to help get this bill passed.
The Social Security Caregiver Credit Act of 2007 seeks to amend title II of the Social Security Act to credit prospectively individuals serving as caregivers of dependent relatives with deemed wages for up to five years of such service. That means that family caregivers would be allowed to earn credit toward their Social Security for up to five years while they serve as a family caregiver to a dependent relative as outlines in the bill.
Thank you, for your time and any assistance that you might be able to give to this effort. Together we can make a difference, we just need to write the letters and send them to our congressmen. If you would like to do more, you can write to more members of the Subcommittee on Social Security, or to your own congressmen or others. And be sure to encourage everyone you know to write. |

Welcome to the Family Caregiver Information website
Being a family caregiver is a difficult and often lonely process. This website seeks to assist those who have found themselves caring for an elderly loved one, or any caregivers regardless of their age or the age of their care recipient. Through the use of on-site forums, an on-site knowledge base and other resources that will be added to this site at a later date, Family Caregiver Info strives to provide family caregivers with the tools they need to form a truly interactive community where they can find support and share their own unique experience with others that may be entering into unfamiliar situations.
Together we can make a difference in the lives of us all.

Who is behind this site - I am a full-time caregiver to my father, who suffered a massive stroke on September 12, 2001 that left him in need of a full-time caregiver. My mother helped me care for my father until her death this past September, at which time I became the sole full-time caregiver to my father. My goal is to help other family caregivers to get the help they need, not merely someone to come do their job for them - but help in being able to take care of their loved one their self. |

November 2008 National Family Caregiver Month
A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America
During National Family Caregivers Month we recognize and celebrate the many individuals throughout our country who work each day to ensure a better quality of life for their family members. Through their selfless action, these caregivers provide their loved ones support and comfort as they age, combat illness, or suffer from disability.
Our Nation is compassionate, and we believe in the sanctity of life at all stages. Through tireless efforts and inspiring deeds, many Americans care for loved ones in need. By acting as in-home care providers, people across our Nation are helping to ensure that their family members are provided with love, comfort, and security. My Administration has worked to offer caregivers support and training. In 2006, I signed the Lifespan Respite Care Act of 2006, which established a program to help family caregivers get access to affordable and high-quality respite care. In addition, the National Family Caregiver Support Program encourages cooperation among government agencies and other organizations that support and work with family caregivers.
National Family Caregivers Month is an opportunity to recognize those who serve a cause greater than self and contribute to the well-being of their loved ones. Family caregivers are soldiers in America's armies of compassion and set an inspiring example for their fellow citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim November 2008 as National Family Caregivers Month. I encourage all Americans to honor the selfless service of caregivers who support their loved ones in need.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-ninth day of October, in the year of our Lord two thousand eight, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.
GEORGE W. BUSH |
 | | | | What Do You Want In A Caregiver Site? | |
This site is intended to be a social network site where family caregivers can exchange information and help one another with the issues that are of concern to family caregivers, as such, this is your site. Let me know what you would like to see included here or what you would like to see removed from the site. I have set up a section in the forums to send me site feedback and let me know what you think of the site as well as what you need in a family caregiver's website.
I'm still getting things organized in this new program, so let me know what would be a kewl addition to the site. Thanks! |
